Handheld BOXX

The Handheld BOXX is a mobile parking POS and validation terminal — a 5.5" touchscreen device that lets parking staff scan tickets, apply discounts, process contactless payments, and print receipts anywhere in the facility. It runs on WiFi, connects to CloudEASE in real time, and works up to 4 hours on a single charge.

Configure each device login as a full point-of-sale terminal, a rate-and-validate station, or a validation-only unit for merchants and front desk staff. Same form factor — three operating modes — all managed from CloudEASE. Parking Made Easy®.

Three Modes. One Device.

The Handheld BOXX ships in the same hardware form factor regardless of how it is configured. The operating mode is set by software — per-login in CloudEASE — so the same device fleet can be split across different roles in the same facility.

Mode 01

Point of Sale (POS)

Rate the ticket, display the amount due, collect card or contactless payment, and print a receipt. Full cashier transaction from a handheld device. Ideal for staffed event entry, valet, or overflow cashier lanes.

Event parking · valet staging · staffed booths
Mode 02

Rate & Validate

Scan the ticket, view the session, apply a validation discount, and then rate the remaining balance. One device handles both the merchant validation step and the final payment collection for validated parkers.

Hospital parking staff · hotel cashiers · retail parking offices
Mode 03

Validation Only

Apply a discount or full validation to a ticket without touching payment. Designated for merchants, front desk agents, or tenant reception staff. Each login can have a different discount level configured in CloudEASE.

Restaurant validation · hotel front desk · medical office reception

How CloudEASE Powers the Handheld

Every Handheld BOXX connects to CloudEASE over WiFi. When a ticket is scanned, the device queries CloudEASE for the session record — entry time, duration, applicable rates, and any existing validations. The amount due is calculated at the server level, not locally, so rates are always current and every transaction is logged in real time.

Validation discounts are applied at the server level in CloudEASE. When a merchant validates a ticket on the handheld, that discount record is attached to the session in CloudEASE immediately. The parker does not receive a new ticket — their original barcode carries the discount to the exit lane automatically. This means the discount cannot be duplicated, reversed, or tampered with at the lane level.

All handheld transactions appear in the same CloudEASE reporting dashboard as fixed pay station and cashier transactions. Managers can see revenue by device, by operator login, by time of day, and by payment method — with full drill-down to individual session records.

Per-Login Discount Control

Each handheld user has a CloudEASE login with a configured discount level. A restaurant might have a login that applies a 2-hour free validation. A hotel front desk might have a login that fully validates guests up to 24 hours. A parking attendant might have a POS login with no discount capability at all. These rules are set in CloudEASE and enforced by the device — no over-validation is possible outside the configured parameters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Handheld BOXX?
The Handheld BOXX (HHB-2xx) is a mobile parking terminal that lets parking staff scan tickets, process payments, and apply validation discounts anywhere in the facility — without tying operators to a fixed cashier station. It is a 5.5" touchscreen device with a built-in barcode scanner, contactless and magstripe card reader, receipt printer, and WiFi connectivity to CloudEASE. A fully charged battery supports up to 4 hours of continuous operation. Staff can use it at event parking entrances, in a staffed booth, in a lobby, or anywhere else in or around the parking facility.
What are the three operating modes?
The Handheld BOXX supports three software configurations. Point of Sale (POS) mode allows staff to rate a ticket, display the amount due, accept card or contactless payment, and print a receipt — a complete cashier transaction from a handheld device. Rate & Validate mode lets operators scan a ticket, view the session, apply a validation discount, and then rate the remaining balance if any. Validation-only mode lets designated staff — restaurant hosts, hotel front desk, medical office reception — apply a discount or full validation to a parker's ticket without handling payment. Each handheld user login can have a different mode and discount level configured in CloudEASE.
How does validation work on the Handheld BOXX?
When a parker presents their ticket to a validator (a merchant, hotel desk agent, or facility staff), the operator scans the barcode with the Handheld BOXX. CloudEASE immediately applies the configured discount — a percentage off, a fixed dollar amount, or a full re-rate — to the session record at the server level. The parker does not receive a new physical ticket. When they reach the exit lane, the original ticket barcode is scanned and CloudEASE applies the validation automatically. The parker pays only the discounted amount. This server-side validation model means the discount cannot be duplicated or tampered with — it lives in CloudEASE, not on a paper sticker.
How does the Handheld BOXX fit with a Cashier BOXX or fixed pay station?
The Handheld BOXX and the Cashier BOXX solve the same problem — staffed ticket rating and payment — in different form factors. The Cashier BOXX is a fixed countertop unit for a staffed booth or kiosk where parkers walk up to a stationary station. The Handheld BOXX gives that same capability to a staff member who is moving through the facility — working an event, assisting drivers at the gate, or validating at a concierge desk. Both are CloudEASE connected, so all transactions regardless of device appear in the same reporting dashboard. Many facilities use both: a Cashier BOXX at the primary exit booth and Handheld BOXX units for overflow or event staffing.
What payment types does the Handheld BOXX accept?
The Handheld BOXX accepts contactless tap (NFC) payments including mobile wallets and contactless cards, and magnetic stripe cards via the integrated magstripe reader. It is PCI PTS 5/6.x certified. For cashless operations, it handles all standard North American card types. Staff using the device in POS or Rate & Validate mode can collect the full payment due, with the transaction logged and receipt printed immediately. Cash handling is not supported on the handheld — facilities requiring cash payment should direct those parkers to a fixed cashier station or an exit pay station.
