Overview

The ultimate barrier gate.

The BGS-6xx high-volume automatic barrier gate offers a servo motor and stainless steel housing — durable and rust-resistant in Canadian climates and tropical salt-water environments. Multiple inputs and outputs, configurable open/close speeds, and auto-reverse on obstruction. Red/green illuminated panels provide stop/go guidance to drivers. The optional breakaway release arm minimizes damage to the motor and gate when a vehicle drives into the arm. Lightweight aluminum arms install with no special tools. Slim profile fits narrow lanes — built for high-volume applications.

Safety Features

Auto-reverse, illuminated panels, audible alarm.

Parking BOXX gates auto-rebound when the arm contacts a solid object — a required safety feature you can demonstrate by catching the arm in your hand. Visibility and warning systems prevent contact in the first place.

Auto-Reverse on Obstruction

Gates auto-rebound the moment the arm contacts a solid object. A required safety feature on every Parking BOXX barrier gate — protects vehicles, pedestrians, and the gate itself.

Red/Green Illuminated Panels

Top-mounted illuminated panels stay red until the arm is fully open, then flip green to signal go. Optional illuminated arms add visibility at night — visible up to 500 ft.

Audible Closing Alarm

Audible alarm sounds when the arm is about to close, alerting anyone standing nearby. Combined with on-arm signage, it warns pedestrians who cross gate lanes.

3M Reflective Arm

Powder-coated white aluminum with 3M red retroreflective strips on both sides. Engineered internal structure resists heavy winds even on the 18-ft arm. Visibility approaches 90° at night.

Pedestrian Detection Sensor

Optional sensor prevents the arm from closing on a person crossing the lane. Use selectively — pedestrians can also block sensors to let multiple vehicles pass without paying.

Security Camera Mount

Single or dual camera mounts with optional NVR for incident review. Reduces vandalism and discourages drivers who try to "game" the system.

Engineered Break Points

Break in the right way.

Despite best efforts, some drivers will hit a barrier gate arm. Parking BOXX engineered two break points so the cheap parts fail first — protecting the motor and shaft.

Break Point #1 — Breakaway Bolt

Low-speed impact protection

The breakaway bolt lets the arm hinge outward on low-speed impact instead of snapping. Replace one inexpensive securing bolt and the gate is operational again in minutes — no full arm replacement.

For high-speed impacts the aluminum arm may shear off, but if you're handy you can usually trim the edges, redrill, and reuse 95% of the arm.

Break Point #2 — Sacrificial Component

Manual force-open protection

Some drivers try to force the arm open by hand to skip payment — common on remote exit lanes. Without a designed break point, this damages the motor or shaft and turns into an expensive repair.

Parking BOXX includes a sacrificial component (under $10) that breaks first and absorbs the force. Field-replaceable in minutes — no service truck required.

Access Control & Revenue

Restrict who enters. Control how they pay.

Whether you're securing access or collecting revenue, the barrier gate arm is the physical control point.

Authorized-only access

Pair the gate with RFID readers, AVI/AVR vehicle hangtags, or LPR cameras. Only credentialed vehicles get through. Used by corporate campuses, residential buildings, secure facilities, and monthly-permit lots.

Loop detectors above the gate ensure only vehicles trigger the arm — pedestrians can't walk up and game the lane.

Revenue-collection access

Pair the gate with ticket dispensers, pay stations, or LPR billing. Drivers pay to exit; the gate enforces payment. Used by transient-parking garages, hospitals, airports, hotels, and event venues.

Every transaction logs to CloudEASE — Parking BOXX's cloud management platform — for revenue audit, occupancy reporting, and remote operator control.

Manual Operation & Backup

Keep the gate running when power doesn't.

For lower-volume sites, remote control or push-button stations replace fully automatic operation. For higher-volume sites, battery backup keeps you running through outages.

Option 01

Remote Control

Open, close, or stop the arm from a key fob. Right-sized for low-volume facilities where a staff member is on-site to manage entries and exits.

Option 02

Push-Button Station

Wall- or pedestal-mounted button operates the gate manually. Common at staffed facilities — security desks, valet stands, attended booths.

Option 03

Battery Backup & Manual Release

Optional UPS keeps the gate operational during power loss. Manual release lets staff raise the arm by hand if power is out longer than the battery lasts.

Option 04

Key Switch — Hold Open / Hold Closed

For events, end-of-day, or single-lane reversal (entry in the morning, exit in the afternoon). Two gates back-to-back handle the directional change without rewiring.

Option 05

Loop-Free Operation

Where loops aren't practical, photo-eye sensors can replace in-pavement loops for vehicle detection — useful for temporary installations or surfaces that can't be cut.

Option 06

CloudEASE Remote Control

Open, close, or hold any gate from any browser. Pair with security camera footage for verified remote assist when a driver needs help.

Folding & Articulating Arms

Built for low-clearance garages.

If you build for 6'8" clearance, the last thing you want is a barrier gate arm cutting into your usable height when raised. Folding and articulating arms solve it.

How articulation works

The arm folds at a fulcrum point as it rises, staying parallel to the ceiling instead of swinging vertically into the rafters. Vehicles get the full clearance the garage was designed for.

Standard folding arms are 12 ft with adjustable height. Custom lengths available for non-standard lanes.

  • Maximizes clearance on the longest possible arm
  • Smooth fold-and-raise cycle — no jerk, no over-travel
  • Same auto-reverse, breakaway, and CloudEASE integration as the standard arm

When to spec one

Indoor garages with low ceilings, parkades with structural beams above the gate, mixed-use buildings, and any facility where headroom matters more than arm length.

For very tight installations, see the dedicated articulating barrier gate page.

What is a parking barrier gate system?
A parking barrier gate system is an automated access control solution that uses motorized gate arms to manage vehicle entry and exit at parking lots and garages. A complete system includes barrier gates, ticket dispensers or LPR cameras, pay stations, and cloud management software like CloudEASE. Parking BOXX manufactures barrier gate systems for commercial, municipal, and high-traffic facilities across North America.
How much does a parking barrier gate system cost?
A single barrier gate unit costs $2,000–$6,000. A complete parking barrier gate system — including gates, ticket dispensers or LPR cameras, pay stations, and management software — ranges from $15,000 to $80,000+ depending on lane count and features. Parking BOXX provides free quotes with itemized pricing.
What is included in a barrier gate system?
A barrier gate system typically includes motorized gate operators, straight or articulating arms (8–20 ft), loop detectors, entry and exit stations (ticket dispensers, card readers, or LPR cameras), payment machines, and parking management software. Parking BOXX systems integrate all components through CloudEASE for real-time monitoring and revenue control.
How do parking lot gate control systems prevent unauthorized access?
Parking lot gate control systems use credential validation (tickets, access cards, license plates, or smartphone apps), dual loop detectors for tailgate prevention, photo-eye sensors, and integrated LPR cameras to flag unauthorized entries. Parking BOXX barrier gate systems connect to CloudEASE to log every transaction and alert operators in real time.
What types of barrier gate arms are available?
Parking BOXX offers straight arm gates (8–20 ft) for standard lanes, articulating barrier gates with folding arms for low-clearance garages, and foam or rubber-padded arms for pedestrian areas. Materials include aluminum, steel, and fiberglass depending on the application.
Do parking barrier gate systems work during power outages?
Yes. Parking BOXX barrier gate systems include battery backup options and manual release mechanisms to ensure continued operation or safe manual access during power failures.
