How it works

Press a button. Ticket in 2 seconds. Gate opens.

A parking ticket machine sits at the entry lane of a gated parking lot or garage. When a driver pulls up, they press a button to take a ticket. The machine prints a thermal ticket with a barcode, the entry time, and facility information. The barrier gate opens automatically, and the driver enters the facility.

Step 01

Vehicle detected on loop

Loop detectors embedded in the pavement activate the machine only when a vehicle is present — preventing pedestrians or debris from triggering a ticket.

Step 02

Driver presses button, ticket prints in 2s

Thermal barcode ticket issues with the encrypted entry time, date, lane number, and facility info. QR barcode ticket, multiple lines of customizable text.

Step 03

Ticket taken → gate opens

The moment the driver takes the ticket the barrier gate opens. If the ticket is not taken, it retracts automatically and is invalidated. Vehicle back-out also invalidates the ticket.

Step 04

Entry logged in CloudEASE

Every ticket issued is logged with a timestamp, lane number, and occupancy count — giving operators complete visibility into entry volume and space availability from any browser.

Ticket Printing Technology

Direct thermal printing. No ink. No toner. No ribbons.

Hand taking a printed thermal ticket from an Entry BOXX parking ticket machine

Parking BOXX parking lot ticket machines use direct thermal printing — the same technology used in airline boarding passes and retail receipts. Thermal printing requires no ink cartridges, toner, or ribbons. The print head applies heat directly to specially coated paper, producing clear barcodes and text in under one second.

Thermal tickets hold up in wallets, dashboards, and pockets without smearing. The barcode remains scannable after hours of exposure to heat, humidity, and handling — critical for facilities where drivers park for days or weeks.

Each ticket includes:

  • 2D encrypted barcode — scanned at pay stations and exit lanes for automatic fee calculation
  • Entry date and time — printed in human-readable format for the driver
  • Facility name and address — identifies the parking location
  • Terms and conditions — customizable legal text for liability protection
  • Promotional messaging — optional text for advertising, events, or validation offers

Ticket stock loads in high-capacity rolls. Issues up to 3,500 or 7,600 tickets per thermal paper roll, depending on system options selected. The parking ticket dispenser alerts operators via CloudEASE when paper is running low. Replacing a roll takes less than 60 seconds with no tools required.

Entry Lane Configurations

Three entry modes. One lane.

Not every parking facility operates the same way. Parking BOXX parking ticket machines support three entry lane modes, configurable per lane. Operators can run different modes on different lanes simultaneously.

Mode 01

Ticket Entry — Transient Parking

The standard configuration for hourly and daily parking. The driver presses a button, takes a ticket, and the gate opens. Fee is calculated at exit based on duration. This is the most common setup for commercial garages, hospitals, airports, and mixed-use facilities.

Mode 02

Pay-on-Entry — Flat Rate

For flat-rate lots where drivers pay a fixed fee to enter. The parking ticket machine accepts payment at the entry lane — cash, credit card, or contactless tap — and the gate opens after payment. Common for event parking, airport economy lots, and daily-rate surface lots.

Mode 03

Pre-Paid, Event & RFID

For events, reservations, or pre-purchased access. Drivers scan a QR code, enter a validation code, or tap an RFID credential. The machine verifies against CloudEASE and opens the gate without issuing a ticket or collecting payment. Used for hotel guests, monthly permit holders, and events.

Key Features

What makes the Entry BOXX different.

Thermal Printing

No ink, no toner, no ribbons. Direct thermal printing in under 1 second. Customizable ticket fields — your logo, facility name, address, terms, and promotional messaging on every ticket.

Base Plate Branding — Included

Custom housing colors, logo, and graphics printed directly on the machine. Included at no extra charge. Hotels, hospitals, universities, and corporate campuses use branded entry stations to create a polished arrival experience.

12" Full-Color LCD Display

Sunlight-readable 12" LCD with programmable storyboards and customizable/advertising images in multiple languages. Lot full sign built in — a 12" full-color display unique in the industry.

Camera-Ready — LPR, Security & NVR

Integrated mount supports LPR (license plate recognition), security cameras, and NVR. LPR serves as the primary entry layer — capturing plates at entry, opening the gate for registered vehicles, and falling back to ticket dispensing for unregistered ones. Transaction linking and enforcement included. Both LPR and ticket-based modes run simultaneously.

Extreme Temperature Range

Operates from −40°F in Canadian winters to 122°F in equatorial climates. Thermostatically-controlled heater keeps the thermal printer and electronics running in sub-zero conditions. Drainage channels prevent water intrusion in rain and snow.

Modular Service Panels

Spacious, neatly organized interior with clearly routed cables and conduit — operators and technicians frequently comment on how easy the machine is to service. Most maintenance takes under 5 minutes with no specialized tools.

LPR + Ticket — A Layered System

LPR is great. Until it isn't. That's why we layer it.

LPR cameras offer real benefits — automated plate recognition, faster throughput, hands-free entry for registered parkers. But LPR alone has real-world limitations: even a 99% read rate means 1 in 100 vehicles needs manual intervention. Rear-plate-only states, temp dealer tags, snow, glare, and character confusion (O/0, 1/I, S/5) can all drop accuracy further.

Camera-only systems without barrier gates can lose up to 40% of revenue from unpaid exits. That's why Parking BOXX recommends a layered approach: LPR + barrier gate + ticket fallback + intercom. LPR shines when it works; the rest of the system covers the gaps.

Parking BOXX entry stations support ticket-based and LPR-based entry on the same lane simultaneously. Recognized plates bypass the ticket; unrecognized plates fall back to standard ticket dispensing so every vehicle is tracked and every session is captured.

Barrier Gate Integration

Hardwired for reliability. No wireless lag.

Parking ticket machines and parking barrier gates work as a pair. When a driver takes a ticket — or scans a credential, or pays a flat rate — the ticket machine sends an open signal to the barrier gate. The gate arm rises, the driver enters, and the gate closes behind them.

Parking BOXX entry stations are compatible with Magnetic and LiftMaster gate operators. The integration is hardwired — no wireless lag, no dropped signals, and no dependency on internet connectivity for the gate to open.

For high-volume facilities, Parking BOXX parking ticket machines support fast-cycle gate operators that open and close in under two seconds — keeping entry lanes moving during peak hours.

Built for Outdoor Parking Environments

Ask yours
What is a parking ticket machine?
A parking ticket machine is an entry lane device that issues a printed ticket when a driver enters a gated parking lot or garage. The ticket records the entry time and includes a barcode that pay stations and exit lanes scan to calculate the parking fee. Parking BOXX ticket machines also trigger barrier gates to open automatically after a ticket is taken.
How does a parking ticket machine work?
The driver pulls up to the entry lane and presses the button on the ticket machine. The machine prints a thermal ticket with a barcode, the entry time, and facility information. The barrier gate opens automatically. When leaving, the driver inserts or scans the ticket at a pay station or exit lane, and the system calculates the fee based on the duration of stay.
What is the difference between a parking ticket machine and a pay station?
A parking ticket machine is an entry lane device that issues tickets when drivers arrive. A parking pay station is an exit lane or walk-up device where drivers pay their parking fee before leaving. They work together as part of a complete gated parking system — the ticket machine records arrival, and the pay station processes payment at departure.
What ticket formats does a parking ticket machine support?
Parking BOXX ticket machines print thermal tickets with 1D or 2D barcodes that are scanned at exit. Tickets include the entry date, time, facility name, and custom branding. The thermal printing technology requires no ink cartridges or toner, reducing maintenance costs and ensuring reliable operation in outdoor environments.
Can a parking ticket machine work without a barrier gate?
Yes. A parking ticket machine can operate in a gateless configuration where tickets are issued for fee calculation but no physical barrier controls entry. However, most commercial lots and garages pair ticket machines with barrier gates to prevent revenue loss from drivers who enter without taking a ticket.
How does LPR work alongside a parking ticket machine?
LPR cameras can serve as the primary entry layer, reducing reliance on ticket dispensing for registered vehicles. Instead of printing a ticket for every vehicle, the LPR camera photographs the license plate at entry — registered plates open the gate automatically, while unregistered vehicles still receive a ticket as the fallback. Parking BOXX recommends a layered approach: LPR as the primary mechanism with ticket dispensing as the backup, not a full replacement. Entry stations support both simultaneously so no vehicle is left without a path forward.
What customization options are available?
Parking BOXX Entry BOXX ticket machines can be customized with your facility's colors, logo, text, and branding on the housing. The 12" LED display panel shows custom messages to drivers. Tickets themselves are printed with your facility name, address, terms and conditions, and any promotional messaging you choose. Custom branding is included at no extra charge.
How much does a parking ticket machine cost?
Parking ticket machine pricing depends on the configuration, features, and number of entry lanes. Parking BOXX offers transparent pricing on complete systems that include the entry station, barrier gate, and CloudEASE software.
